Danzan Ryu Jujitsu

A Comprehensive Martial Art for the Modern World

What is Danzan Ryu Jujitsu?

Danzan Ryu Jujitsu is a comprehensive martial art system founded in Hawaii during the 1920s by Professor Henry Seishiro Okazaki. It’s not just another martial art – it’s a fusion of various fighting styles from around the world, including:

  • Traditional Japanese Jujitsu
  • Hawaiian Lua
  • Okinawan Karate
  • Filipino Martial Arts
  • Chinese Kung Fu
  • American Boxing and Wrestling

This diverse background makes Danzan Ryu Jujitsu a well-rounded and highly effective self-defense system that adapts to various situations and body types.

Why Choose Our Danzan Ryu Jujitsu Program?

  1. Self-Defense for All: DRJJ is designed to be effective for practitioners of all ages, sizes, and abilities. It focuses on leveraging technique over strength, making it accessible to anyone.
  2. Comprehensive Training: Students learn a wide range of skills, including escapes, throws, joint locks, pins, strikes, and healing arts. Training also includes rolling, falling safely, and maintaining balance.
  3. Personal Development: DRJJ goes beyond physical techniques, fostering mental focus, discipline, and character development. It is rooted in the principles of respect, patience, and compassion.

What to Expect in Training

Classes are structured to guide you from beginner to advanced levels, focusing on:

  • Basic Techniques: Learning to roll, fall safely, and execute fundamental self-defense moves.
  • Intermediate Skills: Expanding your abilities with throws, joint locks, and self-defense applications.
  • Advanced Techniques: Mastering deeper concepts, resuscitation methods, and restorative therapy.

A Unique Philosophy

At its core, Danzan Ryu Jujitsu emphasizes the “Way of Gentleness,” or Judo, which focuses on improving both body and mind. Students learn to respond effectively to force with fluidity, cultivating a sense of calmness, clarity, and balance.
