BRAZILIAN JIUJITSU


Triune Brazilian tsu's primary focus is ground fighting. It is based on principles that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant using leverage and proper technique; most notably, by applying joint-locks and choke holds.

The techniques taught can be used to subdue an assailant with whatever level of severity the student chooses, although in classes students are able to “tapout” or submit to their training partner to avoid injury.  Brazilian Jiujitsu will prove to be both mentally and physically challenging.  The benefits include increased physical strength and conditioning, flexibility, and a stronger core.

Many individuals have been exposed to Brazilian Jiujitsu through the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) where jiujitsu technique is prominent, but most newcomers don’t realize that there is a distinct difference between jiujitsu and MMA.  Daily classes do not feature kicking or punching, the focus is on safe grappling technique that can be done on a daily basis.  Additionally, our program offers insight from not only a sport or competition perspective, but also from how to effectively apply Brazilian Jiujitsu in a street or self defense situation.

For those who are interested in MMA, our “no gi” Brazilian Jiujitsu classes incorporate MMA techniques and how to deal with striking from the ground both offensively and defensively.  The traditional jiujitsu gi or kimono is not used in these classes as students typically wear shorts and a t-shirt.  Takedowns and takedown defenses are also covered in the no gi and regular jiujitsu classes.

A typical class will start with “snake drills” used to develop core strength and muscle memory to escape bad positions while grappling.  Fundamental drills used to practice escapes and submission attacks are then covered to complete the “warmup” portion of class.  Many of these drills double as core strengthening and conditioning exercises.  Various techniques will then be taught by the instructor and you will have an opportunity to practice these techniques with your fellow students.  Class will conclude with live grappling practicing the techniques taught with other students of your same level.
